Step-by-Step Application Process

1. University Admission: You must be admitted to a full-time, approved educational program at a recognized Norwegian institution (university or university college).
2. Pay Application Fee: Register your application online at the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) portal and pay the application fee (approx. NOK 6,300).
3. Transfer Funds: Transfer the required living expense funds into the deposit account provided by your Norwegian educational institution.
4. Gather Documents: Prepare your passport, admission letter, housing proof, and the receipt showing you transferred the funds.
5. Book an Appointment: Schedule an appointment to hand in your documents. This is usually done at a VFS Global center or a Norwegian Embassy/Consulate in your home country.
6. Submit Biometrics: Attend your appointment to submit your physical documents and have your biometric data recorded.
7. Register in Norway: After your permit is granted and you arrive in Norway, you must book an appointment with the local police to order your physical residence card.

Sponsorship Guidelines

• If a parent or sponsor is funding your studies, they must transfer the required NOK 170,368 directly into the educational institution's deposit account on your behalf.
• A written letter of guarantee from a sponsor in your home country without the actual transfer of funds to Norway will be rejected.

Accompanying Family Members

• Family Reunification: Your spouse, registered partner, or children can apply for family immigration.
• Challenges & Delays: The UDI often cannot process family applications simultaneously with the student permit. Family reunification can take a very long time (often 5 to 9 months).
